"Rising from the Ashes" Reproduction
This piece explores the duality of strength and fragility, harsh and soft, man-made and natural, death and life. Fire poppies must be germinated by fire in order to grow, so they are fairly rare. They only bloom for a short period of time and then wait patiently for the next fire. The fire poppy balances such a fragile existence (needing such specific circumstances to even exist at all) with the ability to thrive from fire. I juxtaposed the paper-y flower against a rusting barbed wire fence. Barbed wire feels harsh and man-made, but in this image, it’s beginning to decompose and be overtaken by nature. Perhaps what we think of as strength is only relative. And… perhaps, sometimes things must burn down to make space for growth.
